The
OA HERA NAMIB BACKPACKERS & CULTURAL CENTRE is situated in
Maltahohe, on the main street on the western side of the town, it’s
easy to recognize, everything is blue & yellow. Being at the
end of the village, the centre offers a quiet setting and is mostly
surrounded by nature, the premises are also totally secure. Maltahohe
is a village situated on the C19 (tarred part), about halfway between
Mariental (110km) & the Namib desert, the distance to the Sesriem
gate is 180km, the duwisib castle is about 80km away and the Namib
Naukluft park is 160km from Maltahohe.
The
backpackers is well situated, a convenient
choice to overnight while exploring the Namib desert area. There are 5
basic but comfortable twin bed rooms with 2 bunk beds each and a big
sharing bathroom,
there’s also an outside self catering area. The limited number of rooms
prevents the place ever getting too crowded and ensure a prevailing
atmosphere of peace.
There
are also many other facilities and activities available at the centre:
- Camping
blocks with individual barbecue
area, tables & seats. Shared bathroom & shower,
self catering area.
- Restaurant
/ cafeteria which can serve
snacks, drinks & full meals at anytime of the day. Plenty of our
homemade specialties to enjoy & most of our vegetables come
straight
from our own garden.
- African
art shop with a section of exclusive craft, many attractive products
like carvings, jewels, clothes,
tableware, batiks and plenty more.
- Cultural
activities like the traditional
Nama choir and dancing show with 25 local children from the village,
traditional Nama medical plant presentation with an introduction to
various local plants used for their different healing properties.
- Internet
access through high speed broadband connection to keep in touch with
news, work and friends.
- Picnic
area for guests looking for a stop to stretch their legs, have their
packed lunch or enjoy a coffee.
There’s
loads to enjoy besides simply relaxing
at the OA HERA NAMIB BACKPACKERS & CULTURAL CENTRE. Our
rates are as competitive as possible this side of the
desert, so pull in or book in and enjoy a whole lot of activities all
in one place right on the edge of the Namib desert.
